Ol’ D’s Soda Shop & Restaurant is the place where the generations meet.
Located on Jackson Street in downtown Harlingen, Texas (the Antique Capital of South Texas), Ol’ D’s is a blast from the past that appeals to young and old (seasoned citizens) alike with wholesome family fun. The bygone era of the drug store soda shop comes alive as you sit at the original marble soda bar from Raymondville’s old Neese Rexall Pharmacy and enjoy Ol’ D’s handmade shakes or ice cream sodas along with homemade burgers served with home-cut fries while listening to music from the 1950s and 1960s.
The original exposed brick walls with antique neon signs, Coca Cola memorabilia, and original pop art paintings from the Angell Art Gallery further enhance the nostalgic atmosphere. Swivel on the soda bar stool and scan the perimeter of the room for images of a bygone era. Browse the glass-enclosed displays like Bill Debrooke’s antique collection of televisions, radios, and cameras, Simon Vega’s Little Graceland display, a Bill Haley display, Freddy Fender Museum display and others.
Ol’ D’s is not just a soda shop. It is a restaurant with a menu to satisfy any appetite. Besides the single, double, or triple meat hamburger plate, try the fish, hand breaded with Dave’s secret recipe, or the mesquite smoked pit BBQ. The tastes will take you back to another time and place or introduce you to flavors not found anywhere in South Texas.
